You can find a wide range of different kinds of dice in polyhedral varieties in most game stores, so you can create unique games with them, and know more about them personally. We are lucky because we have 3D printing ti enable hobbyists and game designers to make new shapes that are never been seen before. D4 dice are usually made in triangular pyramid or tetrahedron shape, which is thrown and lands on its flat faces, and its value is read along the bottom of the dice on the landing face. D4 dice do not roll very well because their shape is pointy, so they are usually replaced with spinners. D6 or six sides dice are commonly cube shape and they are numbered with dots, also known as pips. Some D6 dices come in crystal shape with pointed ends and elongated triangular faces, and are numbered 1 through 6. Instead of landing rectangular faces, D7 or seven-sided pentagonal prism more likely land on pentagonal faces.
D8 or eight sides are referred to as octahedron that have equilateral triangular faces that meet four at a corner. It can be visualized as two square pyramids which have been glued at their bases together, and their shape has twelve edges and six corners. D10 or ten sides dice are shaped as pentagonal trapezohedra compared to two pentagonal pyramids fused at their bases wherein the face of one pyramid line up with the other’s edges. Dodecahedral or 12-sided dice are labeled with numbers 1 through 12, with twelve regular pentagon faces which meet three to a corner. 12-sided dice are used as calendar dice wherein the faces are labeled with the names of the months. D16 or sixteen sided dice are hard to find because they are unusual and do not come with standard sets. D16 or sixteen-sided have odd numbers on one side and even numbers on the other side.
